The BTR-D ( Bronetransportyor Desanta , or airborne armored transporter) is an airborne multi-purpose tracked armored personnel carrier based on the BMD-1. It is usually armed with an AGS-17 automatic grenade launcher and is used to transport the heavy weapons teams of the desantniki .
