Washing is the application of a diluted color to an area, crevice, corner or contour to define and emphasize that area.

In contrast to a filter, the color is more concentrated.

These techniques for defining models and figures are easier and more effective than diluted acrylic paints, especially on large areas, as they dry too quickly, can leave the dreaded edges and flow less in difficult areas due to the surface tension of the water.
